Welcome to St Mary's
St Mary’s is an independent day school offering a girls only education from aged 4 through to 18 years together with a nursery for boys and girls aged 0 to 4 years, housed in the former Stables.
Our aim is simple - we want to prepare our girls of today to face the challenges of being the women leaders of tomorrow, equipping them with the curiosity, confidence and creativity they need to make their mark in the world.
At St Mary’s, we recognise that girls learn differently from boys and have developed a curriculum geared specifically to their learning needs which is delivered within very small classes, allowing for an extraordinary level of personal support and care.
There is also a culture in which all the scientists are girls, all the artists are girls, all the mathematicians are girls and all the writers are girls. Girls ambitions know no limits. They are encouraged to take risks and extend their horizons, from the moment they start in Reception class.
Our innovative leadership programme nurtures the vital skills and attributes required for effective leadership and each girl is recognised and rewarded for their progress in developing these qualities.
Our examination results are excellent - 93% A* to C at A level and 97% A* to C at GCSE in 2011 - and we have been placed in the top 5% of schools nationally for our 'value added' measure at GCSE and the top 1% of schools for A level. Pupils in the top 5% of schools are judged to be making
exceptional progress.
However, at St Mary's we recognise that achieving happy, successful and
fulfilled lives rests upon so much more than a string of excellent exam
grades. We encourage each girl to take a full and active part in sports, the performing arts, in outdoor pursuits and in the many clubs and societies on offer which enriches their lives and opens their imaginations to the infinite possibilities life has to offer them.
The achievements of our former pupils, whether it be heading up a team at Reuters, leading troops in Iraq or working creatively in the fields of architecture, fashion design or the theatre, are testimony to the effectiveness of the St Mary’s particular brand of single-sex education.
Come and see us in action at our next open day or call 01905 357786 to arrange a personal tour of the school.
“Pupils grow into confident, thoughtful and articulate young women who embrace the school’s ethos and the compassionate nature of the community. They are supported in this by excellent pastoral care.”
