Serving the community

Understanding their place in the world and taking part in action that will make a difference in the lives of their local community is a vital aspect of life at St Mary's.

A strong sense of empathy towards others is nurtured in the Prep department through the numerous fundraising activities the children take part in to support local and national charities.  As well raising funds through non-school uniform days and the ever popular cake sales the children also learn to appreciate the lives of children less fortunate than themselves.

As the girls join the Senior School they are encouraged to become more active in their support, whether this be volunteering for World Book Day, participating in Race for Life or helping to refurbish a school in Morocco as part of a World Challenge experience.

We also consider it important that as girls grow older that they appreciate the world they live in more fully - the mistakes of the past and the challenges for the future.  From visits by Members of Parliament through to visits to Auschwitz with the Holocaust Education Trust students understand and believe in their ability to make a difference in their society.
