Sixth Form Open Evening on 17th October
Arrive for 6pm - Headteacher's Presentation
Life in the Sixth Form
Here at St Mary’s independent school for girls, we aim to provide a Sixth Form experience that is all a student would wish for from their final years of formal education. It’s exciting, stimulating and challenging but at the same time very supportive.
As the competition for places at the country’s best universities intensifies, young women will want to do everything in their power to ensure they stand out from the crowd.
It is recognised that girls in single-sex schools consistently out-perform their contemporaries in mixed education.* St Mary’s Worcester has a track record of getting girls into the country's best universities and in 2012 The Daily Telegraph ranked us as the best small independent school outside London for A-levels.
We believe our success is based upon:
- Girl-centred teaching and learning strategies based on years of experience and the latest research, delivered within small tutor groups which allow time for students to explore subjects ain-depth and develop their own ideas and opinions. This is underpinned by an academic mentoring programme which ensures each student achieves their maximum potential at A-level.
- An environment where young women are free from worries about how they look or what boys might be thinking about them – very ‘real’ potential distractions for a 16 to 18 year old young woman. They are also free from any gender stereotyping affecting subject choices - St Mary’s young women excel as much in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as they do in English, Drama and Art.
- An innovative leadership programme which develops within each young woman the key skills and qualities required to be an effective leader so preparing them to achieve at the highest level in whatever career path they choose to follow. Sixth Formers are givne opportunities to put these skills into practice through initiatives such as sitting on the committee for the Worcestershire Woman of the Year Awards.
Up-to-date careers insight and advice through our our strong links with local businesses and voluntary organisations, includin ‘real-life’ interview scenarios with professionals to help you hone your interview skills. A lively and popular careers speed dating event develops vital ‘networking’ skills, enabling students to build vital professional links and create a work experience portfolio suited to their interests and aspirations.
All in all, what we promise to
offer each young woman who joins the Sixth Form at St Mary’s Worcester
is an experience that will not only prepare but also inspire them for
life in university and beyond.
