Students are expected to study four subjects at AS level in Year 12 along with an AS in Critical Thinking, and at least three subjects at A2 level in Year 13.
Critical Thinking encourages students to think deeply and in a structured way about ethical issues, cultural and religious issues and issues of personal responsibility. It enables students to make reasoned decisions that are based on evidence and argument rather than assumption and prejudice. The course encourages open-mindedness, inventiveness, imagination and respect for the views of others. The skills developed and attitudes encouraged complement studies across the curriculum and prepare students for the intellectual rigours of academic life.
Students choose which subjects to continue to A2 after their AS year and are guided in their choices by staff. All students sit examinations at the end of their AS year, although some subject teachers prefer to enter their candidates for January units.
The subjects below are offered at AS and A2
- Business Studies
- Classical Civilisation
- Drama and Theatre Studies
- English Literature
- Home Ecomonics: Food, Nutrtion and Health
- Mathematics / Further Mathematics
